To give knowledge to others, especially about gospel truths, and guide them to righteousness. Those who teach the gospel should be directed by the Spirit. All parents are teachers within their own families. Saints should seek and be willing to accept instructions from the Lord and His leaders.
We know thou art a teacher come from God,
Thou which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself,
I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father,
1 Ne. 1:1 ( Enos 1:1).
Priests and teachers must teach diligently or answer the sins of the people upon their own heads,
Hearken unto me, and open your ears,
Ye will teach your children to love and serve one another,
Trust no one to be your teacher except he be a man of God,
The Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the land to prepare their hearts to receive the word,
They taught with power and authority of God,
They had been taught by their mothers,
Alma 56:47 ( Alma 57:21).
Inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed,
Teach one another according to the office wherewith I have appointed you,
Teach the principles of my gospel, which are in the Bible and the Book of Mormon,
Ye are to be taught from on high,
Parents shall teach their children,
Teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom,
D&C 88:77–78, 118.
Appoint among yourselves a teacher,
You have not taught your children light and truth, and this is the cause of your affliction,
It is not ye that speak, but the Spirit which speaketh in you,
Did not our hearts burn within us while he opened to us the scriptures,
The gospel is preached by the power of the Spirit,
1 Cor. 2:1–14.
You shall have my Spirit unto the convincing of men,
Thou shalt be heard in all things thou shalt teach by the Comforter,
D&C 28:1 ( D&C 52:9).
If ye receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach,
D&C 42:14 ( D&C 42:6).
Teach the children of men the things by the power of my Spirit,
Elders are to preach the gospel by the Spirit,
It shall be given you in the very hour what ye shall say,
D&C 84:85 ( D&C 100:5–8).
