Purpose

The time to prepare for your future family is now! Not only will you be more ready for family responsibilities, but you’ll gain skills and knowledge that will help you today.

Goal Description

Learn the skills you need to care for your future family.

Goal Ideas

  • Study and pray about the divine roles of mothers and fathers in the scriptures, general conference talks, and “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” (Ensign or Liahona, May 2017, 145). Write in your journal some things you can work on now to prepare for your future role as a mother or father.

  • Volunteer to babysit children in your ward or community so their parents can attend the temple or have a date.

  • Volunteer to be a parent’s helper. Watch how the parent interacts with his or her children. Ask the parent to tell you about the day-to-day work it takes to care for children. Write your observations in a journal.

  • Make a childcare kit. You could include simple games, craft supplies, snacks, story books, and first-aid supplies.

  • Learn basic first aid and CPR skills. Make sure you understand how these skills are applied differently for infants, children, and adults.

  • Create your own goal.
