Purpose

Sometimes it’s hard to do the simplest thing: sleep! Lack of sleep contributes in a big way to depression, stress, anxiety, and poor health. Oversleeping can also get in your way. Get the right amount of sleep for you, and see how it improves your life.

Goal Description

Consistently get the sleep you need.

Goal Ideas

  • Go to bed and wake up at a consistent time each day. Having a routine helps-for instance, saying your prayers or reading your scriptures just before going to bed at night or right after waking up in the morning.

  • About an hour before bedtime, start winding down. Turn off electronics and do something relaxing-for example, listen to calming music or do breathing exercises.

  • If you have trouble falling asleep, do your best to figure out and solve the problem. For instance, if your brain won’t shut off, write down what you are thinking about so you’ll remember it in the morning. If you feel anxious, try relaxation exercises.

  • Leave enough time for sleep. Most teens need more sleep than they think. Try giving yourself nine hours every night for a week and see if you wake up more rested.

  • If waking up is your challenge, start by making sure you regularly get to bed in time to get plenty of sleep. If possible, make sure plenty of light will get into your room in the morning. Put your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up to turn it off.

  • Create your own goal.
