Create Your Emergency Plan

Purpose

Natural disasters and other emergencies happen all the time, often without warning. The Lord wants us to be prepared so that when these things happen, we can take care of ourselves and help others.

Goal Description

Create a plan for emergencies.

Goal Ideas

  • Prepare an evacuation and communication plan with your family in case you need to leave your home quickly. Practice your plan.

  • Work with your family to put together a 72-hour kit for each family member. If your family already has 72-hour kits, check each kit for things like damage and expiration dates on foods. Repeat these checks every six months.

  • Attend or plan a campout or some other experience where you can learn and practice survival skills, such as cooking outdoors, building shelters, and purifying water.

  • Find out if your community has an emergency plan. If it does, include the plan with your family emergency plan. If not, find out what you can do to get one started.

  • Learn skills that would be helpful in an emergency, such as operating a ham radio, providing basic first aid, shutting off water and gas at your home, and so forth.

  • Create your own goal.
