Purpose

Bring amazing blessings into your life by being grateful! Not only will you be happier, but others will be drawn to you because of your happiness.

Description

Go on a gratitude walk. Challenge participants to notice as many things to be grateful for as they can. Besides talking as they walk, participants could make a list and even take pictures of things they are grateful for.

More Ideas

  • Thank-you notes—Ask participants to think of at least one person they are grateful for and why. Invite them to write a thank-you note to each person. Then deliver the notes as a group.

  • Gratitude guessing game—Invite participants to draw a picture of something they are grateful for. As they are drawing, have the group try to guess what the picture represents.

  • Gratitude guess who?—Give a piece of paper to each participant. Ask participants to write their names and something they are grateful for. Put the papers in a container. Read each piece of paper, but don’t mention the name. Invite the group to guess who wrote it.

  • Gratitude collage—Invite each participant to bring a picture of something they are grateful for and make a group collage. When someone adds something to the collage, encourage them to share a few reasons they are grateful for what the picture represents.

  • Web of gratitude—Invite participants to sit in a circle with one person holding a ball of yarn or string. The person with the ball of yarn or string states a few reasons they are grateful for someone in the circle, and then tosses the ball to that person. The next person repeats the process. Continue to play until a web is formed, connecting the group. (See Kristin W. Belcher, “Web of Gratitude,” Ensign, June 2006, 71.)

Discussion

Encourage participants to talk about what they are learning. Discussions can take place before, during, or after the activity. You could ask questions like the following:

  • Why do you think it is important to be grateful?

  • When have you been blessed by feeling and expressing gratitude?

  • What feelings or impressions do you have about being grateful for your blessings?

  • How can you apply what you are learning in your life?
