Naʻe hoko ʻa Siosefa Sāmita ʻi heʻene kei talavoú ko ha taha fekumi ki he moʻoní. Naʻe tupu ʻi he vālau he ngaahi siasi ne lolotonga tuʻú ʻa ʻene fehuʻi ki he ʻOtuá pe ko e fē ʻiate kinautolu naʻe moʻoní. Naʻá ne pehē ʻi he tali ʻo e lotu ko iá, naʻe hā mai ha pou maama ngingila. Ko ʻene fakamatalá ʻeni:

…ʻI he nofo mai ʻa e māmá ʻiate aú, naʻá ku sio ki he Tangata ʻe toko ua, ʻa ia ko hona ngingilá mo e nāunaú ʻoku ʻikai faʻa lava ke mafakamatalaʻi, ʻokú na tuʻu mai ʻi ʻolunga ʻiate au ʻi he ʻataá. Naʻe faimateaki mo moʻoni ʻa Siosefa Sāmita ʻo aʻu ki he maté.

Naʻe hoko fakataha mo e fuofua tupulaki ʻa e Siasí ha laumālie ʻo e fakafepaki mo e fakatanga. Ko e fē pē ha feituʻu naʻe tō ai ʻa e “tengaʻi mūsitá,” naʻe fai e feinga ke taʻofi ʻene tupú.18

Naʻe tuʻu maʻu ʻa e kiʻi tamasiʻi taʻu hongofulu mā faá ʻo fehangahangai mo māmani. Naʻe ʻafioʻi ʻe he ʻOtuá Hono fohá ʻi he taimi naʻe fili aí. Naʻá Ne ʻafioʻi ʻe faimateaki mo moʻoni ʻo aʻu ki he maté.19

Naʻe manukiʻi lahi ʻe ha niʻihi ʻa e fakamoʻoni [ʻa Siosefa Sāmitá] mo kamata ke fai ha ngaahi talanoa loi pea mo fakatanga kiate ia. Naʻe pehē ki mui ʻe he Palōfitá ʻi he ongoʻi, ka ʻi he nonga mo e lototoʻa, “ʻOku ou ʻalu ʻo hangē ko e lami ke tāmateʻi, ka ʻoku nonga hoku lotó ʻo hangē ko e pongipongi malū ʻi he faʻahitaʻu māfaná. ʻOku ou maʻu ʻa e konisēnisi ʻoku ʻataʻatā mei he faihala ki he ʻOtuá, pea ki he kakai kotoa pē. ʻOku tuʻu ʻa Siosefa Sāmita he ʻahó ni ko e ʻulu ʻo e kuonga fakakosipeli fakaʻosi mo maʻongoʻonga taha ʻo e ngaahi kuonga fakakosipelí kotoa.

ʻOku ou ʻilo ko e Siosefa Sāmita ko iá, neongo naʻe fakapoongi ko ha maʻata ki he moʻoní, ka ʻoku kei moʻui pea ko e taki ia ʻo e kuonga fakakosipeli ko ʻení—ko e tuʻukimuʻa taha ʻo e ngaahi kuonga fakakosipeli kotoa ʻo e ongoongoleleí—te ne kei tuʻu ai pē ʻo aʻu ki ʻitāniti ka hoko maí.23

Ko e pōpoaki ʻa Siosefa Sāmitá—ʻa e pōpoaki ʻa e Siasi ʻo Sīsū Kalaisi ʻo e Kau Māʻoniʻoni ʻi he Ngaahi ʻAho Kimui Ní, ʻa e pōpoaki ʻo e Tui Faka-Māmongá—ko e pōpoaki mahuʻinga taha ia ʻi he māmani ko ʻení. Pea ʻe kei hoko ai pē ʻa Siosefa Sāmita ko e Palōfita, ʻa ia ʻoku moʻui he ʻahó ni, ko ha konga mahuʻinga ʻi hono tataki ʻi he māmaní.24

Koeʻuhí ke mahino ʻa e kāfakafa ʻo e misiona ʻi māmani ʻo e Palōfitá, kuo pau ke tau fakakaukauʻi ia ʻo tatau mo ʻitāniti. Naʻe kau ia ʻi he tokolahi “naʻe ngali ʻeiki mo lahi” naʻe fakamatalaʻi ʻe ʻĒpalahame ʻo peheni:

“Pea naʻe ʻafio ʻa e ʻOtuá ki he ngaahi laumālié ni kuo nau lelei, pea naʻá ne tuʻu ʻi honau lotolotongá, ʻo ne folofola: Te u fakanofo ʻa kinautolú ni ko ʻeku kau pule; he naʻá ne tuʻu ʻi he haʻohaʻonga ʻo kinautolu ʻa ia ko e ngaahi laumālie, pea naʻá ne ʻafio kuo nau lelei; peá ne folofola mai kiate au: ʻE ʻĒpalahame, ko e toko taha koe ʻo kinautolu; naʻe fili koe ʻi he teʻeki ai ke fanauʻi koé.” (ʻĒpalahame 3:22–23.)

Naʻe pehē mo Siosefa Sāmita. Naʻe ʻi ai mo ia foki. Naʻe tangutu mo ia ʻo fealēleaʻaki mo e kakai ngali ʻeiki mo leleí. ʻOku ʻikai ha toe fehuʻia naʻe tokoni ʻi hono palani mo fakahoko ʻa e ngāue maʻongoʻonga ʻa e ʻEikí, ʻi heʻene maʻu ha tuʻunga lāngilangi māʻolungá, ke “fakahoko ʻa e moʻui taʻe-faʻamate mo e moʻui taʻengata ʻa e tangatá,” ʻa e fakamoʻui ʻo e fānau kotoa ʻa ʻetau Tamaí [vakai, Mōsese 1:39]. Ko e fakamoʻoni ia ʻoku ou fie maʻú ko e tamaioʻeiki au ʻa e ʻOtuá, pea ko e kakaí ni ko Hono kakai” [vakai, History of the Church, 6:364]. …
