Elder Dallin H. Oaks

ʻI he kuonga ko ʻeni ʻo e moveuveu fakaemāmani lahí, ʻoku tokolahi ha kakai tui ʻoku nau tafoki ki he ʻEikí ke maʻu ʻa e ngaahi tāpuaki ʻo e fakafiemālié mo e fakamoʻuí. ʻOku ou loto ke lea ki he fakatahaʻanga ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí ni fekauʻaki mo e fakamoʻui mahakí—ʻaki ʻa e faitoʻo fakasaienisí, lotu ʻi he tuí, pea mo e ngaahi tāpuaki ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí.

I.

ʻOku tui ʻa e kau Māʻoniʻoni ʻi he Ngaahi ʻAho Kimui Ní ki hono fakaʻaongaʻi ʻo e ngaahi ʻilo mo e founga fakasaienisi lelei tahá. ʻOku tau fakaʻaongaʻi ʻa e maʻu meʻatokoni leleí, fakamālohisinó, mo e ngaahi founga kehe ke fakatolonga ʻa e moʻui leleí pea tau fakaʻaongaʻi ʻa e tokoni ʻa e kau mataotao hangē ko e kau toketaá mo e kau fai tafá ke fakaleleiʻi ʻetau tuʻunga moʻui leleí.

ʻOku ʻikai ke fehangahangai ʻa hono fakaʻaongaʻi ʻo e faitoʻo fakasaienisí mo ʻetau ngaahi lotu ʻi he tuí pea mo ʻetau fakafalala ki he ngaahi tāpuaki ʻo e fai ngāué. ʻI hano kole ʻe ha taha ha tāpuaki lakanga fakataulaʻeiki, naʻe fehuʻi ange ʻe Pilikihami ʻIongi, “Kuó ke fakaʻaongaʻi ha faʻahinga faitoʻo?” Ko kinautolu naʻa nau tali ʻo pehē ʻikai, “koeʻuhi ʻoku mau fakaʻamu ke hilifaki ʻa e nima ʻa e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí kiate kimautolu pea ʻoku mau tui ʻe fakamoʻui ai kimautolu,” ne tali ʻe Pilikihami ʻIongi ʻo pehē: “ ʻOku hōhoatāmaki ia mo ʻeku tuí. Kapau ʻoku tau puke pea tau kole ki he ʻEikí ke fakamoʻui kitautolu pea fai ʻa e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku fie maʻu ke faí, ʻo fakatatau mo e mahino kiate au ʻa e Ongoongolelei ʻo e faifakamoʻuí, mahalo ʻoku sai ke u kole ki he ʻEikí ke fakatupu ʻeku uité mo e koané taʻe te u palau pe tō ha tenga. ʻOku hā ngali tonu kiate au ke u fakaʻaongaʻi ʻa e founga faitoʻo kotoa pē ʻokú te ʻiló, peá [toki] kole ki he Tamai Hēvaní … ke Ne fakatapui ʻa e faitoʻó ke fakamoʻui hoku sinó.”1

ʻIo, ʻoku ʻikai ke tau tali pē ke ʻosi kātoa e ngaahi foungá pea tau toki lotu ʻi he tui pe foaki ha tāpuaki lakanga fakataulaʻeiki ke fakamoʻui. ʻI he ngaahi taimi fakatāmakí, ʻoku muʻomuʻa ʻa e lotú mo e ngaahi tāpuakí. ʻI he ngaahi taimi lahi ʻoku tau fakahoko ʻa e ngaahi feinga kotoa pē ʻi he taimi pē ʻe taha. ʻOku muimui ʻeni ki he akonaki fakafolofola ke tau “lotu maʻu ai pē” (T&F 90:24) pea ke fai ʻa e meʻa kotoa pē ʻi he fakapotopoto mo e maau.2

II.

ʻOku tau ʻilo ko e lotu ʻi he tuí, pe ʻoku fakahoko toko taha pe ʻi hotau ngaahi ʻapí pe ʻi he ngaahi faiʻanga lotú, ʻe lava ke ʻaonga ia ki he fakamoʻui ʻo e mahakí. ʻOku lahi e ngaahi potu folofola fekauʻaki mo e mālohi ʻo e tuí ʻi hono fakamoʻui ʻo ha tokotaha. Naʻe akonaki ʻa e ʻaposetolo ko Sēmisí ke mou “felotuaʻaki ʻa kimoutolu, ke mou moʻui,” pea toe tānaki atu, “Ko e lotu fakamātoato ʻo e tangata māʻoniʻoní ʻoku ʻaonga lahi” (Sēmisi 5:16). ʻI he fakamoʻui ʻa e fefine ne ala ki he kapa ʻo e kofu ʻo Sīsuú, naʻá Ne folofola kiate ia, “Kuo fakamoʻui koe ʻe hoʻo tuí” (Mātiu 9:22).3 ʻOku akoʻi foki ʻe he Tohi ʻa Molomoná ko e ʻEikí naʻá Ne “ngāue ʻi he mālohi, ʻo fakatatau ki he tui ʻa e fānau ʻa e tangatá… .” (Molonai 10:7).

Ne toki ʻilo ʻi ha savea kimuí ni mai, ko e meimei toko 8 ʻi he kau ʻAmelika ʻe 10 kotoa pē ʻoku nau “tui ʻoku kei hoko pē ʻa e maná ʻi he ngaahi ʻahó ni ʻo hangē ko ʻene hoko ʻi onoʻahó.” Ko e vahe tolu ʻo e saveá naʻa nau pehē kuo nau “aʻusia pe fakamoʻoniʻi ha fakamoʻui fakalangi.”4 Kuo ʻi ai ha tokolahi ʻo e kāingalotú kuo nau aʻusia ʻa e mālohi ʻo e tuí ʻi he fakamoʻui ʻo e mahakí. ‘Oku tau fanongo ki he ngaahi faʻifaʻitakiʻanga ʻo e meʻá ni ʻi he kakai tui ʻi he ngaahi siasi kehé. Ne fakamatala ʻe ha tangata tufa nusipepa ‘i Tekisisi fekauʻaki mo e faʻahinga mana ko ʻení. ʻI he taimi ne fakafokifā ʻa e nounou ʻa e mānava ‘a ha kiʻi taʻahine taʻu nima pea kamata ke ne mofí, ne leleakiʻi fakavavevave ia ʻe heʻene ongomātuʻá ki falemahaki. ʻI he taimi naʻá ne aʻu atu aí kuo mapuni hono maʻamaʻá mo hono kofuuá, ne tikilī ʻe 107 ʻene mofí pea kula hono sinó fakataha mo takatakaʻuli. Ne fakamatala ʻe he toketaá ʻoku kamata ke mate ʻa e kiʻi taʻahiné mei ha mahaki kona ʻoku ʻikai ʻilo hono tupuʻangá. ʻI he mafola koē ʻa e ongoongó ki he kāingá mo e ngaahi kaungāmeʻá, ne kamata ke lotu maʻana ʻa e niʻihi ne manavahē ʻOtuá pea fakahoko mo e houa lotu makehe ʻi honau potu siasi Palotisaní ʻi Vako, Tekisisí. Ne fakaofo ʻa e fakafokifā ʻene hao mei he mohenga ʻo e maté pea fakaʻatā ia mei falemahaki hili ha uike nai ʻe taha. Ne tohi heʻene kui tangatá ʻo pehē, “Ko e fakamoʻoni ia ʻoku tali lotu ʻa e ʻOtuá pea ʻoku hoko ʻa e ngaahi maná.”5

Ko e moʻoni ʻo hangē ko e akonaki ʻa e Tohi ʻa Molomoná, ko e ʻOtuá “ʻokú ne fakahā ia ʻe ia kiate kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku tui kiate iá, ʻi he mālohi ʻo e Laumālie Māʻoniʻoní; ʻio, ki he puleʻanga, mo e faʻahinga, mo e lea, mo e kakai fulipē, ʻo ne fai ha ngaahi mana lalahi … ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo e fānau ʻa e tangatá ʻo fakatatau ki heʻenau tuí” (2 Nīfai 26: 13).

III.

Ki he niʻihi ʻi he fakatahaʻangá ni— ʻa e kakai lalahi ʻoku nau maʻu ʻa e Lakanga Taulaʻeiki Faka-Melekisetekí mo e kau talavou ʻe vavé ni pē haʻamou maʻu ʻa e mālohi ko iá—ʻe tāfataha ʻeku leá ki he ngaahi tāpuaki ʻo e faifakamoʻuí ʻo fakafou ʻi he mālohi ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí. ʻOku tau maʻu ʻa e mālohi ʻo e Lakanga Fakataulaʻeiki ko ʻení pea ʻoku totonu ke tau mateuteu ke fakaʻaongaʻi lelei ia. ʻI he fakautuutu ʻa e ngaahi fakatamaki fakaenatulá mo e faingataʻaʻia fakapaʻanga ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ní ʻoku tau ʻilo ai ʻoku tau fie maʻu ʻa e mālohi ko ʻení ʻo toe lahi ange ia ki he kahaʻú ʻi he kuohilí.

ʻOku akonaki ha ngaahi potu folofola lahi ki he tamaioʻeiki ʻa e ʻEikí te nau “hilifaki nima ki he mahakí, pea te nau moʻui” (Maʻake 16:18).6 ʻOku hoko ʻa e ngaahi maná ʻi he taimi ʻoku fakaʻaongaʻi ai e mafai ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí ke fakamoʻui ʻa e mahakí. Kuó u aʻusia ʻa e ngaahi mana ko ʻení. ʻI heʻeku kei tamasiʻí pea mo ʻeku fuʻu lahi ko ʻení, kuó u sio tonu pea pehē foki ki ha niʻihi ʻo kimoutolu, ha ngaahi fakamoʻui mahaki ʻoku fakaofo hangē pē ko ia ʻoku hiki ʻi he ngaahi folofolá.

ʻI he Fuakava Foʻoú ʻoku tau ako ai naʻe hanga ʻe he kau ʻAposetolo ʻa Sīsuú ʻo “tākai ʻaki ʻa e lolo, mo fakamoʻui ʻa e tokolahi naʻe mahakí” (Maʻake 6:13). ʻOku akoʻi ʻe he tohi ʻa Sēmisí ʻa e fatongia ʻo e paní mo ʻene felaveʻi mo e ngaahi ʻelemēniti kehe ʻi he mafai ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí ʻi he tāpuaki ʻo e faingāué:

“ ʻOku ai ha taha ʻiate kimoutolu ʻoku mahaki? Ke tala ia ki he kau mātuʻa ʻo e Siasí; pea ke nau lotua ia, ʻo tākai ʻaki ia ʻa e lolo ʻi he huafa ʻo e ʻEikí:

“Pea ko e lotu ʻi he tuí, ʻe fakamoʻui ʻe ia ʻa e mahakí, pea ʻe fokotuʻu ia ʻe he ʻEikí (Sēmisi 5:14–15).

Ne akonaki ʻa Palesiteni Pilikihami ʻIongi ʻo pehē: “I heʻeku hilifaki hoku nimá ʻi he ʻulu ʻo e tokotaha puké, ʻoku ou ʻamanaki ʻe tafe atu e ivi fakamoʻui mo e tākiekina ʻa e ʻOtuá meiate au ki he tokotaha faingataʻaʻiá, pea ke matafi atu e puké. “Kapau ʻoku tau mateuteu pea kapau ʻoku tau hoko ko e ngaahi ipu māʻoniʻoni ʻi he ʻao ʻo e ʻEikí, ʻe malava ke tafe atu e maʻuʻanga ivi mei he Mafimafí ʻo fakafou ʻi he tokotaha ʻokú ne foaki ʻa e tāpuakí ki he tokotaha faingataʻaʻiá, pea fakamoʻui ai ʻa e mahakí… .”9

Neongo ʻoku tau ʻilo ha ngaahi meʻa peheni kuo faitāpuekina ha niʻihi ʻo fakamoʻui ʻe he mafai ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí, ka ʻoku tātāitaha ke talanoaʻi e ngaahi fai fakamoʻui ko iá ʻi ha ngaahi fakatahaʻanga lalahi koeʻuhí kuo ʻomi ʻa e fakahā fakaōnopooni ke tau tokanga ke ʻoua naʻa tau “polepole ʻa [kitautolu] ʻi he ngaahi meʻá ni, pea ʻoua foki ʻe lea ʻaki ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo e māmaní; he ʻoku foaki ʻa e ngaahi meʻá ni kiate kimoutolu ke ʻaonga kiate kimoutolu pea mou maʻu ai ʻa e fakamoʻuí” (T&F 84:73).

Tuí

Kuo pau ke ʻi ai ʻa e tuí ʻi he fai fakamoʻui ʻaki ʻa e ivi ʻo e langí. . Ko e ʻelemēniti lahi tahá ko e tui ʻo e tokotahá ʻi he taimi ʻoku ʻā mo tokanga aí. ‘Kuo fakamoʻui koe ʻe hoʻo tuí’ [Mātiu 9:22] naʻe toutou fakaʻaongaʻi ia ʻe he ʻEikí pea hangē ha veesi ʻoku toutou fakamanatú.”11

ʻOku ʻaʻaku leva ke tānaki hoku tāpuakí ʻo makatuʻunga ʻi heʻeku tuí.”12

Fakalea ʻo e Tāpuakí

Ko e konga ʻe taha ʻo e tāpuaki ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí ko e ngaahi lea ʻo e tapuakí ʻa ia ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻe he kaumātuʻá ʻi he taimi ʻokú ne fakamaʻu ai ʻe paní. Ko e ngaahi leá ʻe lava ke mātuʻaki mahuʻinga ʻaupito ka ʻoku ʻikai ke fuʻu fie maʻu pea ʻoku ʻikai ke hiki ia ʻi he lekooti ʻa e Siasí. ʻOku ʻi ai ʻa e ngaahi tāpuaki—hangē ko e tāpuaki fakapeteliaké—ko e ngaahi lea ʻoku lea ʻakí ko e ʻelito ia ʻo e tāpuakí. Ka ʻi he faingāué ko e ngaahi konga kehé ʻa e ngaahi ʻelemēniti mahuʻingá—ʻa e paní, ʻa hono fakamaʻú, tuí, pea mo e finangalo ʻo e ʻEikí.

ʻOku totonu ke maʻu ʻe he kaumātuʻa ʻoku faingāué ʻa e Laumālie ʻo e ʻEikí ke ne ʻilo mo fakahā ʻa e finangalo ʻo e ʻEikí ʻi he ngaahi lea ʻo e tāpuakí. ʻE lava ke uesia ʻe he ngaahi tōnounou ko ʻení mo ha meʻa fakamatelie kehe ʻa e ngaahi lea te tau lea ʻakí.

Meʻamālié, ko e ngaahi lea ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻi ha tāpuakí ʻoku ʻikai ko e meʻa mahuʻinga taha ia he faingāué. Kapau ʻoku lahi feʻunga ʻa e tuí pea ko e finangalo ia ʻo e ʻEikí, ʻe fakamoʻui ʻa e tokotaha faingataʻaʻiá neongo pe naʻe lea ʻaki ia ʻe he tokotaha faingāué pe ʻikai. ʻI he tafaʻaki ʻe tahá, kapau ʻe fakaongoongo ʻa e tokotaha faingāué ki heʻene ngaahi holi fakatāutahá mo ʻene tōnounou fakataukeí, peá ne lea ʻaki ha ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni pe ngaahi lea ʻo ha tāpuaki ʻoku hulu ia ʻi he meʻa ʻoku finangalo ʻa e ʻEikí ke fakahokó ʻo fakatatau ki he tui ʻa e tokotaha puké, ʻe ʻikai ke fakahoko ʻa e ngaahi lea ia naʻá ne lea ʻakí. Ko ia ai ʻe ngaahi tokoua, ʻoku ʻikai totonu ke momou ha lakanga fakataulaʻeiki ʻi hono foaki ʻo ha tāpuaki ke fakamoʻui koeʻuhí ʻokú ne ilifia he ʻikai ke ne ʻilo ʻa e ngaahi meʻa ke lea ʻakí. Ko e ngaahi lea ʻoku fakaʻaongaʻi ʻi he faingāué ʻe lava ke hoko ia ko ha fakamaama mo ha maʻuʻanga ivi ʻo e tuí kiate kinautolu ʻoku fakafanongo ki aí, ka ʻoku makatuʻunga ʻa e ngāue ʻa e tāpuakí ʻi he tuí mo e finangalo ʻo e ʻEikí, kae ʻikai ʻi he ngaahi lea ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻe he tokotaha maʻu lakanga fakataulaʻeikí.

Finangalo ʻo e ʻEikí

Kau talavou mo e kau tangata mātuʻotuʻa angé, kātaki ʻo tokanga makehe ange ki he meʻa teu lea ʻaki ʻi he taimi ní. ʻOku akoʻi ʻa e tefitoʻi moʻoni ko ʻení ʻi ha fakahā ke hilifaki ʻe he lakanga fakataulaʻeikí honau nimá ki he tokotaha puké. Ko e talaʻofa ʻa e ʻEikí he “ko ia ia ʻokú ne maʻu ʻa e tui kiate au ke fakamoʻui iá pea kuo ʻikai tuʻutuʻuni ke ne maté, ʻe fakamoʻui ia” (T&F 42:48; tānaki atu e fakamamafá). ʻI he founga tatau ne toe fakahā kimui maí, ne folofola ʻa e ʻEikí ko ia ia “ ʻokú ne kole ʻo fakatatau ki he finangalo ʻo e ʻOtuá… ʻoku fai ʻo hangē ko ʻene kolé” (T&F 46:30).14

Mei he ngaahi meʻá ni kotoa ʻoku tau ako ai neongo ʻetau hoko ko e kau tamaioʻeiki ʻa e ʻEikí, ʻo fakaʻaongaʻi Hono mālohi fakalangí ʻi he ngaahi tuʻunga ʻoku feʻunga ai e tuí ke faifakamoʻuí, ʻe ʻikai lava ʻe ha tāpuaki lakanga fakataulaʻeiki ʻo fakamoʻui ha tokotaha ʻo kapau ʻoku ʻikai ke finangalo ʻa e ʻEikí ki he fakamoʻui ko iá.

ʻI heʻetau hoko ko e fānau ʻa e ʻOtuá, ʻoku tau falala kiate Ia ʻi heʻetau ʻilo ʻEne ʻofa ma‘ongo‘onga pea mo ʻEne tokaimaʻananga ki he ngaahi meʻa ʻoku lelei taha ki heʻetau lelei taʻengatá. Ko e tefitoʻi moʻoni ʻuluaki ʻo e ongoongoleleí ko e tui ki he ʻEiki ko Sīsū Kalaisí, pea ʻoku ʻuhinga ʻa e tuí ki he loto-falala. Naʻá ku ongoʻi ʻa e loto-falala ko iá ʻi he lea hoku tokouá ʻi ha meʻafakaʻeiki ʻo ha kiʻi finemui naʻe mate tupu mei ha puke lahi ʻaupito.
