The Hill Cumorah Pageant—America’s largest outdoor theatrical event—has been performed annually in upstate New York since 1937 but will be discontinued entirely following its 2020 summer production.
In this pageant, a cast of more than 700 volunteers portray events from the Bible and the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, including trials of Lehi’s family and his descendants, the climactic visit of Jesus Christ to the Americas, and Joseph Smith receiving the plates.
The pageant is staged a few miles from Palmyra, New York, southeast of Rochester, on the Hill Cumorah, one of the Church's most significant landmarks. Latter-day Saints believe that near this area the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. received a record of ancient American peoples from an angel.
It features a 10-level stage, 50-foot light towers, brilliant costumes, music recorded by the world-renowned Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square, and stunning special effects.
The pageant begins at dusk and is performed nightly July 11–13, 16–20.
