Overview
Patriarch
The word patriarch is used two ways in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
-
A patriarch is a Melchizedek Priesthood holder who is ordained to give patriarchal blessings to members of the Church. Patriarchs usually serve in this position from the time they are called for the rest of their lives.
-
Patriarch is also another term for fathers. Adam was the first patriarch, and he was responsible for blessing his posterity and helping them live righteously.
