2020 Handel’s “Messiah” by The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square
- April 10, 2020
- Online Event
Celebrate Easter with Handel’s Messiah, presented by The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, on Friday, April 10, 2020.
Stream instead of Live Event
Originally planned as a live event on Good Friday, the Choir and Orchestra’s live concerts have been canceled due to concerns with the COVID-19 virus. A previously recorded concert from 2018 will instead be streamed over the internet on Church and Choir websites and digital and social channels.
This will permit a performance of this beloved oratorio—an Easter tradition for so many—to be available when people around the world are confined to their homes. Since Church services are restricted, the on-demand viewing options can make this a perfect Easter Sunday activity.
The internet stream in English will begin Friday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m. mountain daylight time on the following:
SaintsChannel.ChurchofJesusChrist.org (audio only under Radio > Tabernacle Choir)
Social, Digital, and Other Channels
Amazon Alexa (say, “Alexa, play The Tabernacle Choir.”)
BYU television will air the full Messiah concert on cable TV, the BYUtv app, and byutv.org on Easter Sunday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. mountain daylight time.
Ask Amazon Alexa (audio only; say, “Alexa, play The Tabernacle Choir”) to replay the full concert from the start anytime Easter weekend.
Physical Programs and Resource Materials
Concert programs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and German as well as links to musical scores and other resource and historical material about Handel’s Messiah are available on TheTabernacleChoir.org/Messiah.
Sing Along to Messiah
You may choose to sing Messiah along with the Choir and Orchestra. For a more immersive experience, download a PDF of the musical score and the concert program with libretto, and view other videos and resources from the Choir’s website.
According to Ron Jarrett, the Choir’s president, “This is a wonderful way to celebrate the life, death, and Resurrection of Christ with believers all over the world.”
