Simonds (Symonds) Ryder (Rider)

(1792–1870)

Simonds (also spelled Symonds) Ryder (also spelled Rider) was a farmer, teacher, and minister who was born in Hartford, Vermont. In 1818 he married Mahitable Loomis in Portage County, Ohio. By June 1831, Ryder was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In early June 1831, he was ordained an elder and called by revelation to serve a mission (Doctrine and Covenants 52:37). However, he left the Church that September.
