Samuel Rolfe

(1794–1867)

Samuel Rolfe was born in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1794. He married Elizabeth Hathaway in 1818. Rolfe was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1835. In March of that year, he moved to Kirtland, Ohio. Two years later, he was living in Caldwell County, Missouri. By 1841 he moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, where he was president of the Nauvoo priests quorum. In 1845, Rolfe was ordained a high priest. From 1846 to 1847, he was a bishop at Winter Quarters, in what later became Nebraska. Four years after migrating to the Salt Lake Valley, in Utah Territory, Rolfe settled in San Bernardino, California, in 1851. He subsequently served in the stake presidency in Los Angeles County. He returned to Utah Territory sometime before his death in 1867.
