James Foster

(1786–1846)

James Foster was born in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, in 1786. He married Abigail Glidden in Vienna, Massachusetts (later in Maine), in 1811. By 1834, Foster was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1834 he marched to Missouri as part of the Camp of Israel expedition. In 1837 he was appointed a president of the Seventy. The following year he was one of the leaders of the Kirtland Camp migration to Missouri. After the Latter-day Saints were expelled from Missouri, Foster settled in Jacksonville, Illinois, where he died in 1846.
