David Dort

(1793–1841)

David Dort was born in Gilsum, New Hampshire, in 1793. He married Mary (Polly) Mack—a cousin of Joseph Smith Jr.—in 1813. Following Mary’s death, Dort married her sister Fanny Mack. In 1831 Dort was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1834 he marched to Missouri as part of the Camp of Israel expedition. In 1837 Dort served on the high council at Kirtland, Ohio. The following year, he moved to Far West, Missouri, where he again served on the high council. In 1839 he moved to Commerce, Illinois, which was later renamed Nauvoo, and became a member of the high council there. He died in Nauvoo in 1841.
