Lyman Sherman

(1804–39)

Lyman Sherman was born in Monkton, Vermont.  In 1829 he married Delcena Didamia Johnson, and he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints three years later. In 1833 he was living in Kirtland, Ohio. The following year, he participated in the Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri.  He was appointed a president of the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1835 (Doctrine and Covenants 108), and he was ordained a high priest and appointed to the Kirtland high council in 1837. By October 1838, he had moved to Far West, Missouri, where he was appointed a temporary member of the Far West high council. Sherman was appointed to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in January 1839, but he died at Far West before he was notified and ordained.
