Daniel Stanton
(1795–1872)
Daniel Stanton was born in Manlius, New York. He married Clarinda Graves in 1816. In late 1830, he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt in Kirtland, Ohio. The following year, he was ordained a priest by Lyman Wight, an elder by Joseph Smith, and a high priest by Oliver Cowdery. In 1832, he was appointed by revelation to serve a mission with Seymour Brunson (Doctrine and Covenants 75:33). Stanton moved to Jackson County, Missouri, that same year. In 1833, he was appointed to watch over a branch of the Church in Independence, Missouri. By 1838, he had moved to Daviess County, Missouri, where he was appointed a member of the high council at Adam-ondi-Ahman. With the other Saints, he was expelled from Missouri and moved to Illinois in 1839. Stanton was appointed a member of the high council at Lima, Illinois, in 1843. The following year, Brigham Young appointed him and others to leave Nauvoo and preside over branches of the Church elsewhere. By 1852 he had moved to Utah Territory, and he helped settle the community of St. George, Utah Territory, in 1861.
