“Prophet Portrait: President Thomas S. Monson,” Friend, Apr. 2014, 49
When he was young, Thomas S. Monson raised pigeons. Known for his kindness, he gave his pet rabbits to a family who needed food at Thanksgiving and his train car to a boy who had no Christmas presents. When he grew up, he worked in the publishing business for the Deseret News. As an Apostle, he organized the first stake in East Germany and got permission for the Church to build the Freiberg Germany Temple. President Monson has called all members of the Church to go to the rescue of those who need help.
