Joel 3

A Great Battle

Joel 3 greatly applies to the last days. In fact, it seems to describe a battle often referred to in the scriptures as Armageddon, which will occur just before the Second Coming of the Savior. Armageddon is a battle where all nations will fight against the Lord’s people and where the Lord will fight for His people to help them win the victory. The battle is part of the judgment and destruction of the wicked before the Millennium.

  1. Winning the War

We must not forget that the battle of Armageddon is certainly not the only time the Lord’s people will be or have been engaged in a war. In fact, our war with Satan began in the premortal life (see Revelation 12:7–11). Satan was cast out at that time, but he still “maketh war with the saints of God” (D&C 76:29). This war is one of eternal consequence, and we must be aware that as the time of the Second Coming draws near, Satan will not only stir up men to physical warfare, but he will continue his battle to spiritually destroy Heavenly Father’s children. So while we watch for Armageddon as one of the signs of the coming of the Savior, we must not forget that we are already involved in a great battle against the forces of evil, and we must be valiant in this effort. Read Joel 3:16–21; 1 Nephi 14:11–14; 22:16–17 and explain how the Lord has promised to help His people in the physical and spiritual wars of the last days.
