Jeremiah 33

Peace in Jerusalem

Jeremiah 33 contains some special promises concerning Jerusalem that have not yet been completely fulfilled. Chapter 33 speaks of a great day of peace in Jerusalem when all the people who live there will worship the Lord. This prophecy has not been fulfilled, but Jeremiah said it would be in the days when “the Branch” (Jesus Christ) reigns as King on David’s throne (see vv. 15–16). In other words, Jerusalem will never know complete peace and safety until all her inhabitants accept Jesus Christ as their King.

  1. What Do You Learn about Jesus Christ?

Read Jeremiah 33:15–18. These verses say that in some future time Israel will not “want” (lack or need) a man to sit and rule on David’s throne, nor will they “want” men to perform sacrifices. In what ways does Jesus Christ eternally fulfill the roles of king, priest, and sacrifice for His people? (see Luke 1:32–33; John 18:36–37; Hebrews 2:17; 7:11, 22–27; 8:1–6; 9:11–15; 10:10–17; 3 Nephi 9:19–20).
