Making a More Heavenly Home

“I will prepare to become a … loyal husband, and loving father by being a true disciple of Jesus Christ.”

By living the gospel, I’m learning to serve others—especially at home. When I help my mom, she feels less overwhelmed, and the housework is lighter for her.

My mother always tells us to keep the house organized. This can be difficult with seven people at home, but when we are in an organized and clean house, we can feel closer to God.

Prophets teach that the best place for us to learn about the gospel is in our homes. We usually study the scriptures as a family. Sometimes it’s difficult, but with effort we manage to study. This helps the Spirit be more present in our home and can help us withstand the world’s attacks on families.

Another thing that really strengthens our family is doing activities together. It can be simple things like sitting outside the front of our house to talk or going out for a snack. When we do this, everyone feels good, and our relationships become stronger.

I’ve learned that it’s a great responsibility to be a priesthood holder. There’s a lot I can do to serve and bless my neighbors and especially to serve my family through the priesthood. Being responsible in my calling is also important. Whenever I receive a call to serve, I try to be dedicated to it with my best efforts. I know the same will be true when I have the great responsibility of being a father.

By applying these things and following the example of our Savior Jesus Christ, I’m preparing myself to be a good husband and father in the future. Helping my mom and striving to live the gospel has taught me this. I know the love God has for me and His desire that one day I can lead my family with honor.
