Stake FSY Activity - Study Activities
Preach My Gospel (1 hour or 1 hour 15 minutes)
20–30 youth, 1 counselor for every 10–20 youth recommended
If you choose to do this activity, it would be wise to recommend that the youth bring their personal copies of Preach My Gospel or download it on their phones prior to the activity. Have a counselor briefly teach one of the chapters in Preach My Gospel (do this only if the youth would benefit from a model). This lesson should be no more than about 15 minutes. Spend 5 minutes explaining the instructions for the activity. The youth will break up into companionships and choose a chapter to teach from Preach My Gospel (or you can assign a chapter). They will then spend 25 minutes preparing this lesson with their companion. After preparation, they will get together with another companionship, and each companionship will take 15 minutes to teach their lesson to the other companionship.
Schedule:
- 15 minutes—Counselor-led lesson (optional)
- 5 minutes—Instruction
- 25 minutes—Lesson preparation
- 15 minutes—Companionship 1 teaches companionship 2
- 15 minutes—Companionship 2 teach companionship 1
“The Living Christ” (1 hour 15 minutes)
10–20 youth, 1 counselor for every 10–20 youth recommended
For this activity, you will need to provide a physical copy of “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles” for each youth. Break up into small groups (10–20 youth).
To help youth become more familiar with “The Living Christ,” have them look for and mark the following:
- Circle the name of Jesus Christ and all other titles He bears.
- Underline the word “testimony” and any other forms of the word “testify.”
- Outline the section giving the physical description of the Savior.
- Circle the roles of the Savior (for example, “Creator,” “Redeemer,” “example”).
- Shade words and phrases describing what the Savior did and taught while on the earth.
- Draw boxes around the phrases describing where He now stands, where His way leads, and what will happen when He returns to the earth.
Have the youth go to JesusChrist.ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Allow the youth to individually explore the website and find answers to the following questions:
- Who is Jesus Christ?
- Why do I need a Savior?
- What can I learn from Him?
- How can I personally follow Jesus Christ?
- What can help me draw closer to the Savior?
- How can I share my witness and love for the Savior?
Discuss what the youth discovered.
