“By Candlelight,” New Era, Aug. 1985, 31
By Candlelight
Silently she comes forth from nowhere
dressed only in yellow—
the dancer.
Slowly, dramatically she grows,
reaching taller,
stretching.
She stands alone on the pedestal
flowing with every breeze—dancing,
to capture her audience.
Faster and faster,
now, almost
motionless.
Then, hastily, she speeds up
only to flicker away
in a moment.
She sways back and forth
without rhythm or form
in her simple
hypnotic way.
And then, without warning,
she disappears
in a single breath.
Leaving only a trail of smoke
to mark
her existence.
