One Voice - Multi Stake Faith Concert Brings Unity
One Voice, multi-faith concert brings unity in the city of Milton Keynes
An historic multi-faith concert was held at the Milton Keynes chapel, Northampton Stake, co-hosted with InterfaithMK, where 200 non-members attended, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes, Councillors Mandy and Mick Legg. The concert called, ‘One Voice’, was organised by a member of the MK District Synagogue, Albert Gilbert, with songs and musical items from various faiths and cultures in the city, including contributions from the local ward choir.
The event was featured on BBC Three Counties radio on their Sunday morning programme and BBC Sunday Morning Live TV broadcast some of the concert, featuring Trubys Abrahamic Women’s Choir, a collaboration of women from local faiths who perform together. The High Sheriff for Buckinghamshire, Kurshida Mirza, brought the choir together in mid 2023 to perform musical items which represent the three Abrahamic faiths, Islam, Christianity and the Jewish faith. Two members of the Milton Keynes ward regularly sing in the choir and perform in local churches and interfaith meetings.
This was a collaboration with InterfaithMK, the local interfaith group who were looking for a local venue to host this concert sharing the various talents and cultures of 9 different musical groups and individuals in the area. One of the performers, Anil Satram, commented after the concert: “I would like to share our gratitude and appreciation for the efforts and support from the organisers. What an amazing event. Very well executed with great hospitality and spirit.” President Robert Clayton remarked: “A wonderful afternoon of song and worship. My prayer is that the unity we felt through a concert in a small chapel in Buckinghamshire might make a bigger difference in a world that is in great need of concerted love between all our brothers and sisters.”
