The Light of Christ
The Savior invited His disciples to “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”
Many times in the scriptures we find that we are the light of the world.
In fact, many people in the environments we frequent already notice us, we stand out as members of the Church of Jesus Christ in many of the things we do on a daily basis.
People around us at school or university, at work or in other environments we frequent have already noticed that we don’t drink alcohol, and they’ve also noticed that we don’t smoke.
Many more people will see the light of Christ in our countenance.
People will notice above all how we treat other people. In the way we talk to other people, they will notice above all the way we serve each other, the way we help each other.
President Russell M. Nelson said:
My dear brothers and sisters, how we treat each other really matters! How we speak to and about others at home, at church, at work, and online really matters.
When we are baptised, we take upon ourselves the name of Christ.
The prophet Alma taught us:
`` …and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;
… and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
… as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you? ´´
After baptism we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, who will always be with us according to our faithfulness.
This same companionship of the Holy Ghost helps us to distinguish good from evil and to do good, … because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually.
Every day of our lives, we must look for these opportunities to continually do good, to follow the guidance of the spirit. We will receive many opportunities to do this.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is very simple and practical. We sometimes spend a lot of time trying to explain the principles of the gospel, but the best thing we can do is invite our friends to attend sacrament meeting.
During sacrament meeting the Holy Ghost will testify to the truth of all things.
Look for these opportunities to do good, to serve in the Church and outside the Church, in whatever environment we find ourselves.
Let’s invite our friends to come and see, to feel the joy that emanates from the influence of the Holy Ghost.
By doing this every week, I testify that we will become better disciples of Jesus Christ, every day we will be more like him, we will feel closer to him.
