Relief Society Health and Wellness Conference

On November 2, 2019, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held its first ever health and wellness fair. The Relief Society, the women’s organization in the church, planned and hosted the event in the Spanish Town chapel which saw approximately one hundred and fifty women coming to support the venture.

The event kicked off with two very informative presentations on investment and wealth creation. All in attendance learned about the stellar performance of the Jamaica Stock Exchange and were encouraged to invest in order to build and create a secure future for themselves and their families.

Presentations were also made on women’s health and mental health including activities such as the stress test and tips to reduce and manage the difficulties of everyday life. Participants were reminded that mental health affects everyone and that it is necessary for one’s overall well-being.

The conference came to close with speakers presenting on physical health and conflict resolution. The ladies in attendance were encouraged to eat a balanced diet including fresh fruits and vegetables as well as to exercise on a regular basis.

The event was well supported and many reported having learned much that they could take away; that wellness is a state of complete mental, physical, social and emotional well-being and not just the absence of disease or infirmity.
