Orchards of the Sky

“Orchards of the Sky,” Friend, Feb. 1982, inside front cover

Orchards of the Sky

By Ethel Jacobson

I never saw

The stars so bright

As these above

This mountain height.

They gleam so close

Within my reach.

I can almost pick them

Like a peach

Or a silver pear

That hangs nearby

In dusky orchards

Of the sky.

They shimmer against

The twilight blue …

Which one shall

I pick for you?
