How well do you know Elder Dale G. Renlund?
His wife is Ruth Lybbert.
Elder Renlund is married to Ruth Lybbert Renlund, who served as the president of a law firm. They have one daughter, Ashley.
He was a heart surgeon.
He worked as a cardiologist specializing in heart failure and heart transplantation. He also was a professor of medicine at the University of Utah and the medical director of the Utah Transplantation Affiliated Hospitals Cardiac Transplant program.
Elder Renlund is half Swedish-half Finnish. His parents emigrated to the United States from Sweden so they could marry in a temple. When Elder Renlund was a teenager, he lived in Sweden for three years with his parents, and he returned again a few years later to serve his full-time mission.
He also lived in Africa.
From 2011 to 2014 he lived in Johannesburg, South Africa, in order to serve in the Africa Southeast Area Presidency.
After being sustained as an Apostle of the Lord, Elder Renlund taught about seeing others through Heavenly Father’s eyes:
“To effectively serve others, we must see them through a parent’s eyes, through Heavenly Father’s eyes. Only then can we begin to comprehend the true worth of a soul. Only then can we sense the love that Heavenly Father has for all of His children. Only then can we sense the Savior’s caring concern for them. We cannot completely fulfill our covenant obligation to mourn with those that mourn and comfort those who stand in need of comfort unless we see them through God’s eyes (see Mosiah 18:8–10). This expanded perspective will open our hearts to others’ disappointments, fears, and heartaches. But Heavenly Father will aid and comfort us.”
