The Purpose of Stake Young Single Adult Committee

As a member of a stake young single adult (YSA) committee, you are called to help young single adults in your stake feel the love of Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ and follow Them. They understand our needs and circumstances and will meet each of us where we are as They help us grow closer to Them through covenants. You are called to lead this life-changing work.

You can do this by regularly asking yourself:

How do we help young single adults strengthen their bond to the Savior through covenants and ordinances?
How do we serve all young single adults—including those who feel they don’t fit in, lack social support, or struggle with their faith?
How do we increase feelings of belonging and strengthen relationships among young single adults?
How do we better meet the needs of all young single adults?

As you serve in your stake YSA committee, you will follow the principles and policies found in the General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially chapters 1–4 and chapter 14. You can also draw from resources found in YA Weekly.

The Work of Stake Young Single Adult Committees

Everything you do as a young single adult leader should be guided by the Holy Ghost. The most important thing you can do while serving on the YSA committee is to follow the Spirit of the Lord. Seek direction from the Holy Ghost as you follow this simple three-step process:

Listen to Young Single Adults. As a YSA leader, you will reach out to all young single adults and learn about their lives, goals, and needs. Seek to understand without judging or attempting to counsel. Follow the example of Jesus Christ by first serving before teaching or inviting (see Matthew 14:15–21; Mark 8:22–26; Luke 8:26–36).
Counsel Together and Adapt Solutions. As you bring back what you learn from listening to young single adults, carefully listen to the other committee members and work together to understand needs and identify effective solutions.
Implement Solutions. Once you have defined the solutions and developed a plan, you will implement the plan. As you act on inspiration, focus on needs, work with the committee in unity, and seek counsel from the stake presidency and other stake leaders, the Lord will direct you. You will see the strengths and weaknesses of your plan, and you will be able to adjust as needed.
