Welcome to EnglishConnect for Missionaries

“If you do not speak English, you should study it as a missionary. This will bless you during your mission and throughout your life. Learning English will also bless your family” (Preach My Gospel, 140).

Purpose

EnglishConnect for Missionaries is provided to help you learn English “by study and also by faith” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:118). EnglishConnect can help you:

  • Increase faith in Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.

  • Apply spiritual principles of language learning.

  • Develop English skills.

Learning English can bless you as a missionary and increase your post-mission opportunities for service, employment, and education—including BYU–Pathway Worldwide.

See “What Are the Benefits of Learning English” to learn more.

EnglishConnect Levels

EnglishConnect for Missionaries has multiple levels to help you progress: EnglishConnect for Beginners, EnglishConnect 1, EnglishConnect 2, and EnglishConnect 3. Each level has resources for personal study and companion practice. If you have not received your materials, please contact your mission leader.

Daily Language Study

Missionaries have 30–60 minutes for language study time in their schedule (see Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ, 2.4.2). In addition, you can practice your mission language and English with your companion throughout the day.

You can use EnglishConnect for Missionaries during language study time to bless you during your mission and throughout your life.

Apply the principles in Preach My Gospel, chapter 7, to practice daily and seek the gift of tongues.

“Be patient as you prayerfully study and practice the language. Trust that the Spirit will help you as you make a diligent effort. Have faith that you can have the gift of tongues” (Preach My Gospel,143).
