“We Rejoice in Christ”

Introduction and Impressions

Nephi shared the words of Isaiah with his family because he wanted them to “lift up their hearts and rejoice” (2 Nephi 11:8; see also 1 Nephi 19:22–24; 2 Nephi 11:2). He knew Isaiah’s words wouldn’t be easy to understand, but he valued the precious prophecies about Jesus Christ they contain. Like Nephi’s people, I can find truths about the Savior and share them with my family so they will know “to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25:26).

Record Impressions

It is very important that you seek impressions from the Spirit to help you and your family. Therefore, before reading the rest of this study outline, read 2 Nephi 11–25. What messages do you find for your life? What will be of most value to you and your family? What can you share in your Church classes? Record your thoughts and impressions below or in a journal or notebook.

Ideas for Personal Learning

2 Nephi 12:1–3. In the temple the Lord will “teach us of His ways.”

The temple is the house of the Lord, where I learn principles that help me prepare to return to God’s presence. How have the Lord’s teachings in the temple helped me “walk in his paths”? (2 Nephi 12:3). How have I seen the prophecy in 2 Nephi 12:2–3 fulfilled in my day? How can I prepare to make covenants in the temple if I have not yet done so?

2 Nephi 15:11–20. I can avoid being deceived by false teachings.

Although in these verses Isaiah was describing conditions in his day, many of these descriptions apply to our day as well. How have I seen the fulfillment of 2 Nephi 15:11–20 in the world around me? How can I avoid being deceived by false ideas about good and evil?

2 Nephi 25:19–30. “The right way is to believe in Christ.”

After Nephi recorded Isaiah’s testimony, he shared his own testimony of Jesus Christ. What truths do I find in 2 Nephi 25:19–30 that inspire me to be a better follower of Jesus Christ? What can I do to more fully come to the Savior and partake of His saving grace? (see 2 Nephi 25:23). How can I improve in my efforts to “talk of Christ, [and] rejoice in Christ”? (2 Nephi 25:26).

Ideas for Family Learning

Family Discussions

2 Nephi 11:4–7. Why did teaching about Jesus Christ bring Nephi such delight? What gospel truths do we delight in?

2 Nephi 17:14–17; 19:6. What did Isaiah prophesy about Jesus Christ before He was born?

2 Nephi 25:26. What are we inspired to do in our family to more fully “rejoice in Christ”?

Family Home Evening

2 Nephi 12–24. What are we doing to prepare for the Second Coming?

Isaiah’s prophecies help us understand how to prepare for the Second Coming by describing what will happen before, during, and after Christ comes again. What have we done to prepare for a big event like a family vacation or a wedding? How did our preparations help us? What do the following verses inspire us to do to prepare for Christ’s return?
