“A Marvelous Work and a Wonder”

Introduction and Impressions

I live in a day when the kingdom of God is experiencing both tremendous growth and great opposition. Satan is waging a war against the Saints of God, which means he is also working against me and my family. But the Lord has given us the Book of Mormon so that we can learn from the experiences of the Nephites and Lamanites. This book was written for our day, and as I heed the words of the prophets who kept this record, I can be protected from spiritual dangers and receive God’s greatest blessings.

Record Impressions

It is very important that you seek impressions from the Spirit to help you and your family. Therefore, before reading the rest of this study outline, read 2 Nephi 26–30 and record your impressions. What messages do you find for your life? What will be of most value to you and your family? What can you share in your Church classes? Record your thoughts and impressions below or in a journal or notebook.

Ideas for Personal Learning

2 Nephi 26:14–16; 29:8–9; 30:3–8. The Book of Mormon was written for my day.

Nephi foresaw the coming forth of the Book of Mormon and the blessing it would be to us in the latter days (see 2 Nephi 25:8). What do I learn from 2 Nephi 26–30 about how the Book of Mormon is a blessing in our day? What blessings have I personally received from studying the Book of Mormon?

2 Nephi 26:24–33. God invites all of us to come unto Him and partake of His salvation.

I live in a day when the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ is available to all of God’s children. How can the teachings in 2 Nephi 26:24–33 inspire me to share the gospel with others? What insights from 2 Nephi 26–30 could I share with someone who has not yet learned the fulness of the truth?

2 Nephi 29. God continues to give revelation to His children.

Nephi saw in vision that many people would reject the Book of Mormon because “there cannot be any more Bible” (2 Nephi 29:3). What do I learn from 2 Nephi 27:14, 23; 29 that could help me respond to those who reject the Book of Mormon and claim that the Bible is the only word of God? How can I be a better witness of the Book of Mormon?

Ideas for Family Learning

Family Discussions

2 Nephi 26:14–22. How have Nephi’s prophecies been fulfilled in the world around us? Why was Nephi shown these things so many years before they happened?

2 Nephi 27:26; 29:1. In what ways are the Book of Mormon, the priesthood, and other elements of the Restoration a “marvelous work and a wonder”?

2 Nephi 28:30–31. What do these verses teach us about learning spiritual truth?

Family Home Evening

2 Nephi 28. We can be protected from the influence of the adversary.

What can we do to help our family be protected from the influence of the adversary described in 2 Nephi 28? One idea is to build a “fortress” together out of items such as blankets, pillows, or boxes. From inside the fortress, we could read relevant verses in 2 Nephi 28:3–32 and identify how we are under attack and what we can do to defend ourselves. What can we do to make our home a fortress against Satan’s attacks?
