A Storm on the Sea

Finding peace in the Lord

The Lord told Lehi that it was time to get on the ship. The families packed a lot of food to eat while they traveled. Then they all got on the ship and sailed toward the promised land.

1 Nephi 18:5–8

After many days at sea, some of the people started being disrespectful and rude. They forgot that the Lord had helped them.

Nephi was worried that they might upset the Lord. Without the Lord’s help, their ship would not be safe. Nephi asked his brothers to stop.

Laman and Lemuel were mad at Nephi. They tied him up and were mean to him. They did not obey the Lord, and the Liahona stopped working. Soon a big storm came. After three days in the storm, they were all scared that they would drown.

1 Nephi 18:10–13

Nephi’s family begged Laman and Lemuel to untie Nephi. But Laman and Lemuel still would not let anyone untie Nephi. Sariah and Lehi were sad and became very sick. The storm did not stop.

On the fourth day, Laman and Lemuel knew the ship was about to sink. They repented and untied Nephi. When Nephi prayed, the storm stopped. The Liahona worked again. Nephi used it to steer the ship in the right direction.
