Serving the Lord by Cleaning the Church
My beloved brothers and sisters, I wish to express my love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and His anointed servants, President Russell M. Nelson, the First Presidency, and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Olivia Eson, a sister in my ward (Ekpoma First Ward), hardly has the chance to come to chapel cleaning every Saturday morning because of her tight class schedule at school. But unfailingly, she serves every Sunday immediately after the sacrament meeting by tidying the chapel, which becomes messy after Sunday services.
She also goes to get soap, water, and other cleaning materials to keep the toilets clean.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught:
“When we seek to serve others, we are motivated not by selfishness but by charity. This is the way Jesus Christ lived His life and the way a holder of the priesthood must live his. The Savior did not care for the honors of men; Satan offered Him all the kingdoms and glory of the world, and Jesus rejected the offer immediately and completely. …
“In spite of this shining example, we too easily and too often get caught up in seeking the honors of men rather than serving the Lord with all our might, mind, and strength.”
When we serve one another, we are serving the Lord, according to King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon (see Mosiah 2:17).
Sister Olivia says, “I find joy in serving my Heavenly Father by keeping the Lord’s house clean. This is one way I choose to do my part.”
I know that if we emulate the example of Sister Olivia, we will be richly blessed.
