Speaking without Guile

Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve said, “A person without guile is a person of innocence, honest intent, and pure motives, whose life reflects the simple practice of conforming his daily actions to principles of integrity.”1

As young women, we should always follow the Savior’s example. According to the scriptures, Jesus Christ lived without guile and has commanded us to do same. We are promised blessings when we strive to live without guile2.

Elder Wirthlin said, “If we are without guile, we are honest, true, and righteous. All these are attributes of Deity and are required of the Saints. Those who are honest are fair and truthful in their speech, straightforward in their dealings, and free of deceit, and above stealing, misrepresentation, or any other fraudulent actions.”3

To speak without guile as young women, we must be truthful to our parents, friends, teachers, brothers and sisters, and everyone around us. We need to do everything possible to employ the virtues that are found in being a person without guile.

For us to be able to achieve this, we must pray for the gift or ability to be totally honest in our lives and with others. It will bring peace and joy in our lives today and in the future, so we can be counted among the true followers of Jesus Christ.

Our love for the Savior has indeed increased as we have learnt that our thoughts and actions are more important than speaking. As we strive to improve, Heavenly Father will bless us, and we will live a happy and healthy life.
