To the Point
Is it cheating to copy from the internet or artificial intelligence for schoolwork?
The short answer is yes.
Technology puts information literally at your fingertips. It’s a great tool for research and learning. But the question of copying from the internet or artificial intelligence for schoolwork is less about what’s convenient. It’s more about what the purpose of your education really is.
“Heavenly Father wants His daughters and sons to always be learning. … Education … is part of your eternal goal to become more like Heavenly Father” (For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices [2022], 31). This kind of education is about developing your mind and your knowledge. It’s not about what you can get away with to fulfill minimum requirements.
And on the question of cheating: If your school or teacher tells you not to copy off of the internet or artificial intelligence, then don’t do it. If your teacher assigns you to write something, then you write it. If you’re not sure what’s allowed on any given assignment, ask your teacher.
“Living with integrity means that you love truth with all your heart—more than you love … convenience” (For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices, 31).
