Seek Joy

Look for at least one happy moment each day, and you’ll see God’s blessings.

Sometimes it’s hard to be happy. If you’ve ever felt down on yourself for not feeling happy 24/7, know that it’s OK and normal to experience ups and downs. In fact, that’s just life!

We learn in 2 Nephi 2:25, “Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.” What great news! A big part of our being here on earth is about having joy. But how can we do that on the down days?

A Daily Happy Moment

Some days might feel a little bit brighter and more exciting than others, but you can find moments of joy in any day. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles put it this way:

“We rarely find something we are not looking for.

“Are you looking for joy?

“Seek, and ye shall find.”

Something that helps me to seek joy—especially during those hard days or weeks—is recognizing one happy moment each day.

These moments don’t have to be big, life-changing, or amazing. They can be things like receiving a nice text from a friend, noticing the bright colors of a pretty sunset, reading a scripture that felt like it was meant just for me, or enjoying my favorite treat!

When I intentionally seek out and acknowledge at least one “happy moment” each day, it helps me feel more joyful and recognize the many blessings God gives me, big or small.

Consider trying to find one happy moment each day. Start a list to keep track of them. As your list grows, your joy will too!
