“This Tree Belongs to Me,” Friend, June 2002, 30

This Tree Belongs to Me

By Annie Dearborn

This tree

Belongs to me.

I can read in it,

String beads in it.

I can sing in it,

Swing in it.

I can climb in it,

Rhyme in it.

I can hide in it,

Ride in it,

I can eat in it,

Do great feats in it.

I can creep in it,

Sleep in it—

For, you see,

This tree

Belongs to me.
