Ether 1–5

“Rend That Veil of Unbelief”

After you’ve studied the scripture passages for this week and reviewed the questions and activities in the manual, consider sharing any of the following articles and activities with your family. These additional resources can assist you as you strive to teach the gospel in your home.

Ether 2; 3:1–6; 4:7–15

Seeking Personal Revelation

Receiving personal revelation can be different for each of us, but the Book of Mormon helps us understand that God is willing to guide us whenever we sincerely seek Him.

  • How to Obtain Revelation and Inspiration for Your Personal Life.” In this general conference address, Elder Richard G. Scott (1928–2015) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explains the difference between revelation and inspiration and how to receive both.

  • Our Search for Truth.” In this New Era article, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explains how to find truth and receive revelation through the Holy Ghost.

  • Praying to Our Father.” In this Friend article, President Henry B. Eyring testifies that God answers prayers.

  • Testimony Toolbox.” Use this activity from the Friend to talk about different tools to help your family members receive revelation.

Ether 2:16–25

Lessons from the Jaredites’ Crossing

Like the Jaredites crossing the ocean to travel to the promised land, we will all have trials to face. Although those trials may sometimes be difficult, we can rely on Christ, as well as friends and family, for comfort, support, and strength.

  • Upon the Top of the Waters.” This Ensign article tells how the experience of the Jaredites crossing the great deep helped one man better understand and cope with his mental health struggles.

  • Strength and Guidance for Anxious Times.” In this New Era article, President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, shares how the gospel of Jesus Christ gives us strength and guidance.

  • What Can We Do When Hard Things Happen to Us?” In this Friend article, Elder Robert D. Hales (1932–2017) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shares some thoughts about how God helps us face trials.

  • Safe on the Sea.” In this Friend article, President Thomas S. Monson (1927–2018) uses the story of the Jaredites to teach how to be safe on the seas of life. Includes a coloring page.

Ether 3

Created in God’s Image

Although most of us know that we are children of God, sometimes we forget that we are literally made in His image. He has a body of flesh and bones, just like us. Why is knowing you were made in God’s image important?

  • It’s Good to Be Me!” Heavenly Father made everyone different. Invite family members to answer some questions and then draw a picture that represents them.

  • Like Him.” Do the action rhyme in this month’s Friend to teach how our bodies are created in the image of God.
