Women of Faith Lead the Way in Panmure, New Zealand
New community group formed to build bridges
A women’s interfaith leadership group, established by Leah Broughton-Couch, has started quarterly breakfast meetings to share, plan, and implement a wide range of interfaith activities.
At a recent event hosted by St. Pius X Catholic Church, Glen Innes, and led by their youth and young adults, much unity was found around shared values, challenges and aspirations.
“It was a successful evening,” Leah said. “Our young adults were able to connect with the St. Pius youth. Father Felisi, who leads St. Pius, is keen for another gathering such as this at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
The young people discussed the possibility of participating together in a Christmas cantata sponsored by the Panmure Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this coming December.
Other activities planned include a “Women’s Walk of Faith” to be held along the newly built Glen Innes/Pt. England walkway. The purpose of this walk is to build meaningful relationships at an interfaith and community level for women of all ages.
A “Women of Faith” devotional, led by the St. Pius Church, is also being planned. Additionally, ways to share the Church’s self-reliance resources are being explored. An interfaith family history workshop is also planned for September.
To keep everyone connected, Auckland City Councillor, Josephine Bartley, created a Facebook group called “Tamaki Women of Faith.”
