General Authorities Receive New Assignments for New Zones

The First Presidency has announced new advisory and supervisory assignments for some General Authorities, who will administer newly created geographic zones within the Church. Zones comprise a number of areas, the term previously used to designate major subdivisions within Church administrative-geographic structure.

Members of the Quorum of the Twelve who have been serving as Area Advisers have been released from this responsibility to concentrate on other duties. Advisers for zones will be the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy and four additional members of the quorum. Zone Advisers will report to the Quorum of the Twelve. Area Supervisors will be members of the First Quorum of the Seventy, and will report to the Zone Advisers.

Elder James E. Faust, Elder J. Thomas Fyans, and Elder A. Theodore Tuttle of the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, who have been serving as resident Area Supervisors in Latin America, will now return to Salt Lake City. They will be succeeded by other members of the quorum.

Four members of the quorum currently serving as mission presidents, Elder Gene R. Cook, Elder William R. Bradford, Elder M. Russell Ballard, and Elder Royden G. Derrick, will return to Salt Lake City this summer to assume their new responsibilities as Area Supervisors.
