Caring for the Earth

How are we treating God’s creations?

He expects each of us to be a good steward.

We live in a beautiful world. And it was created for us!

“These wonderful creations were prepared entirely for our benefit and are living proof of the love the Creator has for His children,” said Bishop Gérald Caussé at the last general conference.1

But like all gifts the Lord gives us, this one comes with a responsibility.

“For it is expedient that I, the Lord, should make every man accountable, as a steward over earthly blessings, which I have made and prepared for my creatures” (Doctrine and Covenants 104:13).

As Bishop Caussé put it, “the Creator has entrusted the earth’s resources and all forms of life to our care, but He retains full ownership.”

What does that mean for you? It means doing what you can to avoid polluting the earth, water, or air. It means not wasting food or killing animals needlessly (see Doctrine and Covenants 49:21). It means sharing with those in need and not hoarding resources.

Taking good care of the earth alleviates suffering—not only for animals but for people too. There’s a good Gospel Topics entry about how we can all be stewards over the earth. Read it and think about what you can do to keep God’s creations beautiful!
