The solar system with stars and the sun

A thought from Psalms 1–46.

Have you ever looked up at the starry night sky and thought: “Wow, the universe is HUGE! And I am TINY!”

If so, you’re not alone. In one of the Psalms believed to have been written by King David, the speaker marvels at how insignificant humans seem when compared to everything else God has created:

“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8:3–4)

But pause to think of WHY God and Jesus Christ created the sun, the moon, the stars, and the planets—not to mention all the beauty and majesty here on this earth. It was a gift for us! So that we would have a place to learn and grow.

The scriptures we’re studying this week teach us that God made us “a little lower than the angels” and “crowned [us] with glory and honour” (Psalm 8:5).

Pretty cool, right? A whole world full of incredible creations … all testifying of our Heavenly Father’s love for us!
