This Month’s Theme: Overcoming the World
Hi, friends!
Once again, we’ve entered a new year. Time sure flies, doesn’t it? Most of the time, the new year brings me a lot of motivation to make new goals! But with each passing year, I find it hard to ignore how the world is growing increasingly dark, from international conflicts to constant contention and unstable economies.
Sometimes I just want to lock myself away and hide.
However, a few years ago, when I was feeling the weight of the world more than ever, I felt a sense of peace, clarity, and hope for the future when President Russell M. Nelson pled with us to “find rest from the intensity, uncertainty, and anguish of this world by overcoming the world through your covenants with God.”
And what better way to strive to overcome the world than by studying Doctrine and Covenants this year? This book is filled with countless truths and reminders of how our covenants bind us to Heavenly Father and His power. By turning our focus away from worldly things and toward the Savior, the future will always look bright.
Here are some stories this month of young adults doing just that:
-
How a young adult from Russia is striving to keep Christ—not money—at the center of her life
-
How we can renew our spiritual habits to deepen our discipleship this year
-
How a young adult from American Samoa is choosing to trust the Lord instead of the world
-
How a young adult from Argentina joined the Church after relating to Joseph Smith’s search for truth
-
Resources to help enhance your understanding of Doctrine and Covenants and Come, Follow Me this year
We also have stories that are part of our ongoing series:
-
From the Mission Field: A missionary discusses his struggle with depression—and how he found hope.
-
For Mothers of Young Children: A mother from Brazil discusses what lessons she learned through skateboarding that she applied to motherhood.
-
I Believe: After her parents’ divorce, a young adult from Romania shares why she chooses to believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ above everything else.
Remember this promise: because Jesus Christ overcame the world, He can help us all overcome the world! (see Doctrine and Covenants 64:2).
We can do this together. You’ve got this. Don’t give up.
With much love,
Chakell Wardleigh Herbert, YA Weekly Lead Writer
