Prime Time

Television was one of the great inventions of the 20th century, but today it presents some danger. Not only must we be careful to avoid watching harmful shows, we must also be aware of how much time we spend watching television.

Much of the time we spend watching television could be spent in other ways. The students in Juan Chácon’s seminary class in the Itzaes Ward, Mérida México Stake, suggest the following good things to do instead of sitting down in front of the television set.

  • Spend time talking with family members or friends.

  • Study scriptures.

  • Play basketball, other sports, or board games.

  • Do homework.

  • Visit less-active ward or branch members your age.

  • Plan an activity with friends.

  • Do something nice for someone else.

  • Read a Church magazine or a good book.

  • Listen to uplifting music.

  • Take a nap.

  • Write letters to friends or missionaries.

  • Write in your journal.

  • Take your little brothers or sisters to a playground or for a walk.

  • Ask your parents or grandparents about their childhood.

  • Learn a new hobby.

  • Memorize scripture mastery verses.

  • Take a walk or do some other type of exercise.

  • Help prepare dinner or clean up around your home or yard.

  • Volunteer at a library, school, or hospital.
