“How do I search?” User Guide

How do I search?

You can search to find favorite scriptures or quotes from conference addresses. You can also search for topics as you prepare lessons or as part of your personal study.

To perform a search:

  • Tap on the search button on the title bar.

  • Enter a word or phrase. As you type, recent search terms that match your word or phrase appear. Tapping on any of these copies it into the search field.

  • Tap Search on the keyboard when done.

  • Results are grouped by collections and items within collections. The number of results is displayed to the right of the collection or item title.

  • Tap on titles to see individual search results. Phrase matches appear first, followed by keyword matches. Search terms appear in bold.

  • When you tap a result, you are taken to the first match within a chapter. The verse or paragraph that contains the first match is shaded.

  • If you don’t find what you are looking for, tap on the search button again. Your previous results will reappear, with previously viewed ones shaded.

Some other helpful things to know about searching:

  • The search feature has been designed to handle single-word or phrase searches.

  • Search results are displayed for downloaded items only.

  • Tap on the circled X in the search box to clear the search field.

  • You can remove an item from the list of recent searches by swiping right to left and tapping the Delete button that appears.
