Using Digital Devices as a Family
Parents can help their children in lots of ways to use devices. Parents can be careful in how they use their own devices—your children are watching you. Parents can talk to their children about how to use devices safely. They can even view content on a digital screen with their child and talk about it.
Preparing Children to Take Charge of Their Own Technology
Parents can help their young children prepare to one day take charge of their own technology use. They should talk to them about technology, model how to use it, and set good standards. Parents can help their children become independent and careful with technology.
Purpose, Plan, Pause
You can better control use of devices by following this pattern: Purpose, Plan, and Pause.
Purpose—I can help my children use devices with a purpose.
“I, the Lord, have a great work for thee to do” (Doctrine and Covenants 112:6).
Plan—When we plan how to use devices, our family is more in control, and we make better choices.
“This life is the time for men to prepare to meet God” (Alma 34:32).
Pause—Teach your children to stop and take breaks from devices.
“Be still and know that I am God” (Doctrine and Covenants 101:16).
