Revelation 6–14

Revelation 6–14

Overview

As part of his revelation, John saw a vision of the Lamb of God opening the first six seals of a sealed book. He recorded prophecies about important and troubling events that will occur just before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He shared details of our premortal existence, including a “war in heaven” (Revelation 12:7) and Satan’s opposition to followers of Jesus Christ in mortality. He also prophesied of the Restoration of the Savior’s Church and the separating of the righteous from the wicked.

Prepare to Teach

The following information provides teachers with ideas of what may need to be prepared in advance for each lesson.

Revelation 6–7

Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students feel the importance of relying on Jesus Christ to become pure and remain faithful during the tribulations of the last days.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to read the question found in Revelation 6:17 and come prepared to share what they think it will take to withstand the tribulations of the last days.

  • Videoconference teaching suggestion: After students study or find scriptures that teach how to have our “robes … made … white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14), consider inviting a few students to share their screen and display scriptures they found on the Gospel Library app. If students marked portions of these scriptures, consider asking them why they marked what they did.

Revelation 8–11

Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students feel the Lord’s power and His ability to protect us from the calamities and evil of the last days.

  • Student preparation: Consider sharing the statement by President Russell M. Nelson from the beginning of this lesson and inviting students to study about some of the mighty works the Lord will perform before His Second Coming. The entries “Last Days, Latter Days” in Guide to the Scriptures and “Last Days” in the Topical Guide (both available at scriptures.ChurchofJesusChrist.org) could be useful resources for this.

  • Images: The diagram representing the events of the seven seals; an image of the Mount of Olives, such as Bible Photographs, no. 11, “Mount of Olives” (Consider helping students find this photograph in their scriptures.)

Revelation 12

Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help increase students’ commitment to follow Jesus Christ by helping them understand their premortal choice to choose the Savior and reject Satan.

  • Student preparation: A few days before this lesson, invite students to pay attention to ways they see Satan fighting against Jesus Christ and His followers. Encourage them to prepare to share specific examples of what they noticed.

  • Video:Hope of Israel” (1:01:34; watch from time code 20:52 to 21:36)

  • Image: The image of the woman and the dragon

  • Chart: The chart that explains the symbols found in Revelation 12:1–3

  • Videoconference teaching suggestion: When preparing to share the statement by Sister Wendy W. Nelson, determine whether it would be best to share the video. If sharing the text, consider sharing the paragraphs one at a time, allowing students to discuss their feelings about the statement, what their premortal life might look like, and how it might feel to see it.

Revelation 14

Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students understand how the Savior and His restored Church can help the world—including them—prepare for His Second Coming.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to make a list of what they feel are three or four of the most important purposes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • Images: An image of a statue of the angel Moroni on a temple; an image of a sickle

  • Materials for students: Copies of the following resources if students cannot access them online: Russell M. Nelson and Wendy W. Nelson, “Hope of Israel” (worldwide youth devotional, June 3, 2018), supplement to the New Era and Ensign, ChurchofJesusChrist.org; Russell M. Nelson, “Sisters’ Participation in the Gathering of Israel,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2018, 68–70; Russell M. Nelson, “Let God Prevail,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2020, 92–95

  • Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider beginning class by introducing the scenario and then placing students in breakout rooms to role-play it and discuss reactions or responses they might have to it. Students could also work together to list what they feel are the most important things to understand about why Jesus Christ organized His Church.

Doctrinal Mastery Review 25

Lesson purpose: This lesson will give students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of and apply truths from the 13 doctrinal mastery passages from the second half of the New Testament.

  • Student preparation: Consider giving students a copy of the handout included in this lesson. Invite them to review the scripture references and key scripture phrases and to consider situations in which understanding those passages may be helpful.

  • Videoconference teaching suggestion: If students are creating pictures representing one or more of the doctrinal mastery passages, consider allowing them to use digital programs or apps to do this. Give them an opportunity to share their pictures with the class when they have finished.
