“B. Getting Started,” Communication Councils: A Guide for Priesthood Leaders (2024)
“Getting Started,” Communication Councils
B. Getting Started
-
Review the purpose and organization of Church communication councils.
-
Understand your role and responsibilities as the council’s priesthood adviser.
-
Learn more about helpful skills and qualities for council members.
-
Establish a communication council with a communication director. Call assistant directors and specialists as needed and appropriate. See Extending the Call.
-
Counsel with your communication director about your vision and priorities. Have your council create an annual plan for communication efforts in outreach, media, and community service. Consider budget needs for the annual plan.
-
Counsel with the stake council and the communication council about messages to share with members of the Church and with people who are not of our faith.
-
Meet regularly with the communication director to provide guidance. Attend council meetings as your schedule permits.
-
Prepare to respond thoughtfully to crises or sensitive situations.
-
Be aware of other resources available to you on the Global Communication Network (GCN.ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Interactive training modules for priesthood leaders, order forms for Church business cards, and council training guides are available on the GCN. See more information about the GCN in Resources and Training.
