Apply Doctrinal Mastery Passages
In the Church, we are invited to grow as the Savior did—spiritually, socially, physically, and intellectually. Setting goals can help you progress. Scriptures are given by Heavenly Father to help you become like Jesus Christ in these ways. This lesson will give you an opportunity to practice applying the doctrinal mastery passages to your goals to become like the Savior.
Help learners be active participants. For some students, putting forth effort to learn from the scriptures may seem unfamiliar and somewhat difficult. However, students can grow in their abilities and gradually take more and more responsibility for their own learning. Look for opportunities to help students take a more active role in class, and praise their efforts and progress.
Student preparation: Consider inviting students to talk to their parents or a Church leader about goals they have set. They could discuss successes and challenges they are experiencing.
Possible Learning Activities
A doctrinal mastery passage lesson may need to be taught in place of this review lesson. Refer to the pacing schedule provided by the area or region director or coordinator to ensure that each doctrinal mastery passage lesson will be taught while seminary is in session.
Grow as Jesus Christ did
Consider showing students the Personal Development: Youth Guidebook and discussing the goals they can set. You could also display the following image:
In Luke 2:52 we read that Jesus Christ grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Our Heavenly Father desires for us to grow like the Savior did in all these same aspects. Church leaders have asked us to set goals to help us develop spiritually, socially, physically, and intellectually.
Think about the goals you have set or would like to set.

Speaking about these goals, President Russell M. Nelson taught:
Instead of giving you many specific assignments, … we are inviting you to counsel with the Lord about how you can grow in a balanced way. It will be rewarding and fun, but it will also take some effort on your part. You will need to seek personal revelation. You will need to choose for yourself how to act on it. Sometimes the Spirit may prompt you to do things that are difficult. I think you are up to the challenge. You can do hard things. (Russell M. Students do not need to share personal details about their goals. Encourage them to share more about scriptures and principles and less about specifics of the goal.
