Mosiah 29Alma 4

Overview

Among the Nephites, a man named Nehor taught false doctrine that caused people in his day, and others in years to come, to reject their Savior. Because of his influence, some people “began to persecute those that did belong to the church of God” (Alma 1:19). Later, a man named Amlici led a rebellion against the Nephites that caused many to die in battle. Over time, the pride and contention demonstrated by some members of the Savior’s Church caused the Church to fail in its progress. As a result, Alma felt inspired to resign as chief judge to devote himself to preaching the word of God.

Prepare to Teach

The following information provides teachers with ideas of what may need to be prepared in advance for each lesson.

Alma 1:1–18

Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students recognize and reject false teachings that could turn them away from Jesus Christ.

  • Student preparation: Students could study the section “I can recognize and reject false teachings” in the outline “June 3–9. Mosiah 29–Alma 4: ‘They Were Steadfast and Immovable’” in Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families: Book of Mormon 2024.

Alma 1:19–33

Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students respond faithfully and feel peace even if they face persecution for being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to think about times in their life when their beliefs were challenged and how they responded.

  • Video:The Cost—and Blessings—of Discipleship” (14:45; watch from time code 0:25 to 2:05)

Alma 2–3
